Ebony Whitakers enthusiasm for the East Coast of the North Island comes from a long association with the coastlines of New Zealand as a surfer. Ebony began surfing the West End of Ohope at the age of 10 and went on to compete throughout New Zealand, eventually moving to Australia’s Sunshine Coast in search of warmer waters. This relationship with the Ocean grew into a deep appreciation and respect for the natural environment which he now showcases in his stunning popular photography.
“There is something untamed, unique and wondrous about our natural environment, I have photographed all over the world but to come back to work in the East Coast is to be immersed in paradise.”
Ebonyhas travelled the world photographing in Australia, United Kingdom, Northern and Southern Europe, North America and the Caribbean. Has exhibited in New Zealand and Australia, studied for a Diploma in Visual Arts at Far North Queensland TAFE and has operated as a photographer for over 15 years.
Ebony now divides his time between Ohope and Gisborne and is currently developing further landscape photography for the Rotorua and Western Bay of Plenty regions.
